OUR STORY

The idea behind Crestline Capital, LLC started with a phone call. After 15 years of talking to institutional investors on the phone about their portfolios, we were on the other end of the phone getting pitched on how to invest our money. Most individuals do not have the perspective and experience to know what is important when it comes to decisions about money. We had a simple idea that there was a better way than this status quo. Our idea was to be collaborative advisors, avoiding the noise of Wall Street. We would provide transparency so clients would know the fees their money was paying and to whom it was being paid to. We would offer objective advice based on each client’s situation. Most importantly, we would have a well researched investment philosophy which would underlie our investment strategy. The idea idled for awhile before it eventually took form in the firm of Crestline Capital, LLC.

Shortly after starting this firm, we ran into emotional havoc caused by the market meltdown of 2008. The ensuing skepticism of potential clients, coupled with the fact that we are a small firm without much brand awareness, made the going slower than we had planned. But we persevered because we knew what we offered was a meaningful difference for our clients. We wanted to make  them the beneficiaries of all that we had learned over the years about making smart decisions about their money. We were not selling products; we were selling ourselves and our judgment. We continue to connect individually with clients and prospects. We depend on word of mouth marketing and referrals. We are free to work with world class investment managers like Dimensional Funds Advisors (DFA), custodians like Charles Schwab & Co. and a network of other independent trusted advisors to help craft a great experience for our clients.
